The Essential Foodie’s Guide to Tulum
Tulum is one of the most fascinating and beautiful hideways on Earth. No matter how many times you visit it, there is always a beautiful adventure or experience to be had.
Whenever we escape to this jungle paradise we call home, we try to absorb the best of the enchanting Yucatan Peninsula through flavorful and original recipes.
Although there are a plethora of restaurants to explore, I wanted to share some of my favourite places to eat with you. Of course, there are so many more that I would love to include.
Breakfast
Prieto Cafe
This is definitely a fav breaky spot of us. This tiny cafe serves super yummy açai bowls in adorable ceramic mugs. If you are after something sweet they offer amazingly delicious waffles too.
DelCielo
Probably the best place to enjoy a fresh brewed coffee and a healthy meal in town. They source their ingredients from local, organic producers and create all their delicious bistro dishes from scratch. Their coconut milk, yogurt, marmalades and butter and salsas are homemade.
Must-try: Avocado Florentine. Poached eggs on ago toast with pomegranate and chia seeds served with an incredible red pepper sauce.
Matcha Mamma
This is my favourite spot for a quick smoothie in Tulum. Probably one of most iconic spots, thanks to Instagram and it’s photogenic swing seats.
La Valise
Whether you´re staying at La Valise or elsewhere in Tulum, I´d definitely recommend having breakfast at their beach restaurant as it offers an incredible opportunity for a bespoke gastronomic experience.
Exquisite typical Mexican and Mayan specialties are served along with bread, papaya jam, granola, yogurt, and a plate laden with exotic fruits.
Lunch
Nomade
Cocooned by the jungle, white sand and the Caribbean sea, Nomade Tulum truly seduce travelers with its genuine mix of hippie details, Mexican pieces and Moroccan influences.
There are two restaurants at this bohemian-chic hotel. Macondo, their holistic cuisine restaurant, offers an interesting plant based concept. We absolutely loved taking a pouf and feasting on Yucatán classics with local and sustainably farmed ingredients.
With the rustic good looks of a market stall, La Popular sea grill definitely excels in flavorful dishes such as the Tuna Steak with nut sauce, honey, chipotle, and goat cheese. As we savored it, we had an irresistible urge to lick our fingers!
La Zebra
La Zebra is our absolute jam! Eating here is like embarking on a unique journey of discovery into the enticing flavors of Mexico.
Must-try: Their insanely delicious tacos.
Cocktails
Gitano
We love finishing the day sipping smoky mescal cocktails under the stars at Gitano. The atmosphere is truly electrifying, it feels like a club in the middle of a jungle.
