Amsterdam, The Perfect Christmas Break

Encircled by 165 canals and covered with countless criss-crossing bridges, the most bike-friendly captital in the world is especially romantic during xmas time.
We had the good fortune of staying in an intimate boutique hotel tucked away between the city’s canals, so every important landmark felt close by and walkable. We truly loved ice-skating at Museumplein framed by the I Amsterdam letters and the Rijksmuseum, and strolling along the illuminated streets by night.
As two-wheeling is a way of life in the city, we also found our way around Amsterdam like the Dutchies do! It was definitely the best way to experience the city and gave us the possibility of venturing a bit further out of the usual tourist hangouts.
Filled with bakeries, hidden cafes, canal-side restaurants and vintage stores all hidden behind the facades of 17th-century buildings, the nine picturesque little streets in Amsterdam canal belt is definitely the area that we liked most. We spent lovely days wandering from one to the next doing some window shopping and sitting in cosy cafes watching the bicycles go by.
My Favorite Restaurants
Ree7
If you are a lover of sweet things, head to Ree7 for the most amazing baked-goods you will ever see. With a fairytale menu, the charming cafe is an oasis of tranquility. Expect a wait, especially at the weekends.
Pluk Amsterdam
Located on the Canal ring, Pluk offers healthy, fresh and delicious food. With a natural wooden decor and a warm ambiance, this unique cafe is perfect for a hearty beeakfast before some boutique-browsing. Their homemade breakfast bowls, tasty pastries and cakes are a feast for the eyes.
The Corner Bakery
Pancakes, donuts, hun broodjes, freakshakes…This insta famous cafe on a cute little corner at the Johannes Vermeerstraat, offers one of Amsterdam’s loveliest breakfasts.
The Avocado Show
As avocado lovers, we couldnt leave the city without visiting this cool all-avocado restaurant in the trendy De Pijp neighborhood. Not only were the signature dishes visually stunning but they were also incredibly tasty. From deliciously-messy avocado-bun burger and sweet avocado chocolate smoothies, to classic avocado toast…The possibilities are endless!
Staying in a Straw Loft
Longing for peace and quietness, we escaped the stress of the city and headed to the countryside. We stayed in a dreamy Dutch farmhouse in the middle of infinite green fields.
Our room was beautifully appointed with a huge bed made with a thick layer of straw, under a luxurious quilt with beautiful linens and plenty of pillows. Imagine waking up to a bountiful breakfast with all kinds of fresh produce from the region.
