Discovering Engelberg, the winter paradise in central Switzerland
With a long winter season lasting well into the Spring, the beautiful Swiss resort of Engelbert is maybe the closest you’ll get to Eden on earth. The blue skies, warm sun and white winter landscape make this already impossibly charming destination just downright unbelievable!
The four nights we spent here definitely ran too fast! There was just so much we wanted to do and we couldn’t really decide what to do first! The highlight of our trip were the exhilarating afternoons spent on the slopes followed by some well deserved spa time in the evening.
Swiss Winter Fairytale
Our adventure started in Geneva from where we took trains to the alpine resort. The journey on SBB took us through rolling hills and farmlands, charming little towns, and deep blue lakes. When we arrived in Elgenberg our heart melted. Once you get there, you’ll never want to leave!
Every day began with a hearty meal at the Tea Room. Their fruit tarts are the ultimate guilty pleasure. The panorama from the terrace looking towards the pristine snows of the Alps on a sunny morning was a preview of paradise. Pure white against pure blue.
A Delightful Day in the Clouds
On a sunny morning, we took the chance to hop on a revolving cable car to the summit of Mount Titlis, which at 3,238 m is the highest glacier excursion destination.
The journey into the eternal winter on the world’s first revolving cable car was simply indescribable! No one could fail to be be stirred by the magnificent deep valley of Engelbert, frozen lakes and jagged white peaks.
We paused in Trubsee to stroll around and savour the views. The lake which is filled with emerald-green glacier water in summer, was then covered in radiant white powder snow.
Leaving traces in the fresh powder snow as we wandered up hill and down dale was so much fun! Then, we took a well deserved break and enjoyed our lunch at the terrace of a traditional, cosy ski hut.
The Art of Relaxing
Heaven on the earth – this is how I would describe the world’s most recognizable infinity pool at the 5-star boutique hotel Villa Honneg on Mount Bürgenstock.
Framed above by an amphitheatre of mountain peaks, the heated outdoor pool is an absolute dream. Here, we slowed down, recharged, and reconnected with nature.
The surrounding landscape is absolutely divine. I had my Heidi moment while walking among yellow flower-filled fields. The constant soothing sound of cowbells transported us to a eternal state of Swiss bliss.
