Samode Palace, Jaipur

American author Ray Bradbury’s once said that we travel for romance, we travel for architecture, and we travel to be lost”I truly love this inspirational quote that sparks our wanderlust.

Staying at Samode Palace is definitely one of the most lavish romantic experiences we have ever had across the globe. Set in a sleepy hillside village below the magnificent Sheogarh Fortress, the spectacular former haveli is counted among the best heritage hotels in Rajasthan, the fascinating land of Maharajas.

After driving through ancient villages we got to a quiet, elegant and luxurious walled palace in the Aravalli Hills. The exquisite entrance and the palace´s vintage car collection reminded us of a glorious bygone time.

I could see myself spending weeks here. Mornings started jumping into an open Jeep for a desert safari, relaxing by the beautiful pool flanked by frangipanis, or going for gentle walks through narrow cobblestone streets to get a glimpse of village life.

It was truly delightful to engage with the locals along the way. We were enveloped in a quaint sense of quietude and charm as we saw turbaned villagers entering temples, farmers working the land, children laughing and playing everywhere, and smiling Sari-clad ladies sweeping the grounds.

We would spend the entire afternoon roaming through its beautiful courtyards, wandering from hall to hall under ornate arches, or discovering little alcoves and hidden sitting areas to curl up with a book amidst chirping birds. You may even spot monkeys nearby!

In the evening, we would have a romantic candle-lit dinner in the terrace garden. Imagine enjoying a unique dinning experience of royal Rajasthan and international cuisine under a night sky lit by a million stars. Just the sight of the full moon reflecting in the pool left us enchanted and bewitched with this remote setting!

Each suite is unique, elegantly adorned with a canopied bed, a sitting room and a private courtyard with Jacuzzi. Everyone at Samode Palace goes above and beyond to ensure you are well looked after.

The 475-old-palace was the perfect place to end our fascinating journey to Rajasthan and gave us the opportunity to live like maharajas for a couple of days.
