Some Like It Hot- film location, San Diego

I love Marilyn Monroe…Ever since I was a child I have had a fascination with her. During our trip to San Diego I couldn´t miss the opportunity to visit the legendary Hotel Del Coronado where “Some Like It Hot” was shot .

I suppose you all remember this  starring Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon. Personally, I think it´s one of the funniest American movies of all time. There are numerous stories about Marilyn Monroe during the making of the film. She had difficulties in remembering her lines and sometimes a simple dialogue like “where’s the bourbon?” or “It’s me, Sugar,” required around 50 takes.

The producers couldn’t have picked a better backdrop for the film. Hotel del Coronado, also known as The Del, was designated a National Historic landmark in 1888. Over the years, thousands of celebrities, Hollywood stars, US presidents, dignitaries and American legends such as Thomas Edison, L. Frank Baum and the french aviator Charles Lindbergh, have visited the resort. In fact, it was at The Del where he was honoured after a successful trans-Atlantic flight.

The rumour has it that the ghost of the beautiful Kate Morgan wanders around the Victorian resort of The Del. Appartently, she checked into the resort on November 25, 1892, stayed a few nights and died under mysterious circumstances.  Reports of ghostly happenings circulate at the luxurious Hotel del Coronado since then.
