Can you imagine having a wonderful motu (coral islet) practically all to yourself?

Exploring Motu Piti Aau (meaning “two hearts” in Tahitian) was a delightful experience that will linger in our memory for a lifetime. Like a necklace of pearls encircling Bora Bora’s main island, these motus are idyllic havens of pristine nature beyond my capacity to describe.

Castaway Isolation

Sitting along the easter coral reef, Motu Piti Aau inspires a true sense of castaway seclusion. My mind is always soothed when I imagine myself getting lost in that oasis of translucent blue waters, glistening white sands and leaning palm trees. With not a human soul for miles, Motu Piti A’au is ideal for a sensuous romantic escape.

The only people we came across with was a Tahitian family peacefully having lunch at their thatched roof hut, a fisherman and a group of children happily laughing and playing on the shore. As soon as they noticed our presence, they greeted us with the warmest and most welcoming of smiles. It was lovely meeting them.

The life along these shores is absolutely magical. Before you realize, the relaxed “aita pea pea” philosophy of the Polynesian people embraces you and all you can do is surrender to the tranquil pace of the island. Meaning “not to worry“, this philosophy truly reflects the spirit of Bora Bora.

Soul Soothing Solitude

Time loses all its importance as you watch the ocean and the sky all around you. In a seemingly endless stretch of pure white sand, we rediscovered life’s simple pleasures and pretended the rest of the world no longer existed. The only sounds we could hear was those of rustling palm trees, the gentle lapping of the waves and the honeyed breezes.

To be honest, the spell of silence was broken by the cheerful barking of a little dog that came running to share that soothing calmness with us. Coming out from nowhere, this miniature dachshund was the best companion we could have ever had. It’s funny how the smallest moments have the biggest impact on our lives.

Bora Bora´s Magical Aura

Bora Bora exudes an aura of mystery and romance that truly envelopes and seduces your soul. Swimming in the almost-neon turquoise waters, I felt a profound sensation of spiritual wellness and inner peace. For Tahitians the sea has always been a sacred place and a source of purification.

A Gift of Nature

Sunrises and sunsets are a treat for the senses in Motu Piti Aau. During our stay, I made sure I never missed any of them. I could while away the hours reading the books I had packed or taking my beloved siesta but always with the magnifique mahana (sun) on the horizon.
